AEMT Students Start Testing
For the past six months, dedicated EMS students have been attending Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) classes at the STHCS Training Center on Monday and Wednesday nights. To achieve the AEMT level of certification, providers must complete classroom, clinical and field training on advanced EMS topics. As they approach the end of the course, students took the written test on Wednesday, followed by the practical skills and state exams in the next two weeks. I am pleased that first responders have been able to utilize our Training Center as they gain the skills to deliver high quality pre-hospital care. I’d like to thank instructors Mickey Forness, Rob Pritchard, Todd Reisner, Tim Richardson and Will Smith for providing this important education in our area.
Distance Learning Hub
I’m pleased to report major progress on our state-of-the-art distance learning education center at STHCS. Installers worked at the STHCS Training Center this week to set up single- and double-screen video monitors, digital speakers, microphones and tracking cameras in the training room and boardroom. When work is finished, STHCS will be the hub for the interactive distance learning equipment, connecting with new end-user sites at the Allegany Indian Reservation Volunteer Fire Department, Cuba Ambulance Service and the Gerry Volunteer Fire Department. Mobile units at the end-user sites will be installed next week. This is an approximately $200,000 project that is funded by the USDA Rural Utilities Service Distance Learning and Telemedicine Grant and through support from the Charles D. Cook Office of Rural Health. Additional support for the program came from the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation and our partner agencies in Gerry, Cuba and the Seneca Nation. This project will help strengthen our community through increased education for EMS providers and community members.
