SUNY’s Got Your Back
Our Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (SAFE) program received 100 backpacks filled with personal-care items from SUNY’s Got Your Back Program. The cinch-type backpacks are intended to provide sexual assault victims with items they may need such as shampoo and soap and information about New York’s Victim Assistance Programs. Each backpack also includes a note of encouragement to let sexual assault survivors know they aren’t alone as they recover from the trauma of abuse. SUNY’s Got Your Back program is led by SUNY’s Title IX Coordinators and student volunteers. So far, they’ve distributed 10,000 backpacks to victim-serving programs across New York. SUNY teamed up with the New York State Coalition Against Sexual Assault (NYSCASA) and the New York State Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NYSCADV) on the project. State Police Investigator Jack Migliore dropped the backpacks off in our office. This is a great program that helps victims of sexual assault.
STHCS Outreach/Cribs for Kids
Our Prevention Coordinator Jeff Ciminesi provided outreach about our programs and raised $165 to purchase portable cribs for our Cribs for Kids Program during StrOlean last Friday. The downtown-Olean event encouraged pedestrians to visit downtown businesses. We set up an information table outside our new building at 150 North Union Street. In addition to explaining STHCS programs and services, Jeff offered chances for $50 worth of scratch-off lottery cards to benefit the Cribs for Kids Program. Joey Enright won the $50 in lottery tickets. I want to thank Jeff for all his hard work to outreach and educate the public about our programs and services.
