Orange Thoughts 2.0
from Ms. Crigger
It is a rarity for me to have a TV on in the morning, but one day this past week I had decided to catch a bit of the news. The news anchor talked about the devastation in Texas including schools that were literally still under water. They continued to show pictures and he commented on the number of individuals that are unable to get back into their homes. Along with children that can not attend school. Of course it is all heartbreaking to see the great need.
That same morning I am pulling onto the campus and it is a beautiful sunny day. There truly is not a cloud in the sky. The grass is as green as anything I could imagine and the sky as blue as a painted picture. The campus is buzzing with cars and buses dropping off students at Ryle and Gray. I come around the curve and just pause for a moment to look at this amazing building surrounded by trees and more of nature's beauty. It is a picture perfect setting. At that point I am actually in tears while feeling unbelievable grateful and blessed.
I have had several children talk with me this past week along with writing me very sincere letters about how to help the folks in Texas. We really do have some of the most kind-hearted children you can imagine. I am also grateful that they want to help. I had told them we wanted to just get through this next anticipated hurricane in Florida and figure out where we could be the most help. I had checked a couple of networks in Texas about us perhaps adopting schools, but they were all covered. So we are making a plan, with the help of our very "sparklike" students, to help.
Thank you to all of our parents that are raising these children to have an awareness of need and a heart to help. I am so honored to be a part of this Mannland community. These students really will be world changers through one act of kindness at a time. I know it!!
We have an amazing 5th grade class this year. I always think we have great kiddos, but this group has really stepped up to be awesome leaders. What a great example they are for our younger students. This week's Spark Spotlight is shining brightly on one of those 5th grade students-Race Webb. He is another student that frequently has that smile plastered on his face, but he also does a terrific job with acts of kindness. He offers to help and takes initiative to help. Again, he does it all with a smile on his face. One of the tactics of the Happiness Advantage, and our friend Spark, is acts of kindness. Well this 5th grade Mann student sure gets that and sets an example for others. THANKS RACE WEBB for being our Spark of the week! You Rock!
