Closing out summer with Chamber Classic Golf Tournament

In the last official week of summer, gorgeous weather greeted members of Asheville's business community for a day of golf at The Cliffs at Walnut Cove. Golfers, sponsors and volunteers made connections while enjoying a beautiful day. The annual tournament is one of the Chamber's largest fundraisers supporting our mission of building community through business.

Congratulations to overall tournament champions Wicked Weed Brewing (Ryan Guthy, Justin Crouch, Nate Smith and Rob Robinson) and second place overall Ken Wilson Ford (John Schmidt, Ronnie Dillingham, Hugh Yarborough and Jeff Pruitt).

Local Partners Collaborate to Purchase Creative Vitality Suite
A local partnership has worked together to acquire a new data tool for the arts called Creative Vitality Suite (CV Suite). CV Suite helps quantify the economic activity of arts in the local economy, provides data to add insight about the region’s creative sector, and helps measure change. The software was developed by Westaf, an organization partially funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, whose goals are dedicated to the creative advancement and preservation of the arts. The organizations include Asheville Area Arts Council, Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce/EDC, City of Asheville, The Center for Craft, Creativity & Design, River Arts District Artists, and UNC Asheville. The software incorporates a Creative Vitality Index that measures for-profit and nonprofit activity and shows Asheville Metro has a strong creative economy compared to the state of North Carolina. In 2015 Asheville showed 44% more creative activity per capita than the rest of the state using Westaf’s criteria, a good starting point for further investigation. For the Asheville Area Chamber, contact Heidi Reiber for more information.
