Entrepreneurs on show at culmination of two-year mentor program

Venture Asheville’s Elevate inaugural Demo Day showcased the culmination of more than two years of work at Venture Asheville and allowed over 150 guests the opportunity to hear pitches from 14 startups that have advanced through the Elevate entrepreneurship program over the past year.

Collectively, the 14 companies that pitched, represent the emerging pipeline of Asheville deal flow and gave attendees first-hand access and insight into Asheville’s emerging high-growth economy.

Venture Asheville is the Asheville Chamber's high-growth entrepreneurship initiative. Elevate is a service provided by Venture Asheville as part of our strategy to systematically strengthen and support high-growth ventures in the Asheville area and enables startup entrepreneurs to simultaneously navigate the practical, day-to-day challenges of building great companies and develop their skills as effective managers, leaders and CEOs.

Partnership with Haywood Chamber to strengthen economic opportunities for both communities
The Asheville Area Chamber has been approached by the Haywood County Chamber about our serving as consultants for economic development.

The proposal, approved by the Chamber board of directors on Tuesday, would add Haywood County properties to our portfolio of available sites and buildings as our economic development team meets with site selectors and corporate decision makers.

We see this as a win-win. The future for both communities is brighter when we partner together. Haywood will benefit from the infrastructure we have already established for economic development recruitment, and the additional funding will provide more marketing resources for our economic development team, for instance, expanded site selector relationships and marketing venues. In addition, the vibrancy of Asheville and Buncombe County’s economy rely upon the strength of the region and the workforce it provides. Fully 40% of our workforce is derived from counties surrounding Asheville.

An added benefit is that a relationship of this nature positions Buncombe and Haywood as leaders in the state in demonstrating the power of rural and urban areas working together.

Details are to be worked out before the end of the year when we expect the contract to be in place.
