Training Center Demand
We’ve been amazed at the demand to host trainings in our new Training Center and we’re not even fully moved in yet! The minute renovations were completed, we began receiving requests to use the building. During the last two weeks, we’ve hosted four International Trauma Life Support classes, three “Stop the Bleed” classes, a Stroke Education class, A caregiver roundtable facilitated by Brigid Doherty from the Community Foundation of Greater Buffalo for the Ralph C. Wilson Jr Legacy Funds that was organized by Health Community Alliance, an EMS Leadership Academy class and a meeting of the Western Regional Emergency Medical Advisory Committee. Ardent Solutions of Allegany County asked to partner with us to offer “A Matter of Balance” classes beginning November 27. I’m very excited that our partner organizations are embracing the new Training Center and that the community will benefit from the trainings offered there. If you have a training or meeting that you would like host at our facility, please contact us.
West Valley EMTs Win at EMS World Expo
I want to congratulate Heather and Shawn Lafferty, volunteer EMTs from the West Valley Volunteer Hose Company, for taking first place in the EMS World Clinical Challenge at the EMS World Expo in Las Vegas. Shawn is also a provider with Ellicottville/Great Valley Ambulance Service. The married couple were the only volunteers to enter the challenge. They beat a group of 20 full-time EMT-basics to take first place and win a trip to an international EMS conference in Copenhagen, Denmark. During the challenge, teams were required to respond to real-world scenarios that tested their medical knowledge, critical thinking skills and teamwork. This is a testament to the dedication of our regional EMS providers and the training they receive. It proves that Southern Tier EMS providers are second to none when it comes to providing the best prehospital care possible to communities in Allegany, Cattaraugus and Chautauqua counties.
