Ambulance Simulator in Progress
I'm pleased to report we've started to receive materials for construction of our new state-of-the-art ambulance simulator. The target for completion is the end of June. When it’s finished, EMS students and professionals will be able to practice and master their skills in a realistic ambulance environment. This simulator will be a great addition to our training center. A major portion of funding is in memory of former board member, Walt Reisner. Walt was a pioneer for EMS services in the region, and he knew that when seconds matter, training counts. I'd like to thank Mercy Flight for donating the ambulance parts that will be used to create the interior of the simulator, and Ruth Reisner for her generous support. I'd also like to thank the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation and everyone who donated on NY Gives Day in 2017.
Buddy's First Visit at OGH
An ER and an ambulance can be scary places for kids, that’s why we love to help out during Buddy’s First Visit at Olean General Hospital. Now in its fifth year, the program introduces kids to emergency care settings so they know what to expect if they ever need one. This week, area elementary students brought their "best buddies" (a plush frog and stuffed pony among them) along, as nurses and EMS staff demonstrated some typical ER and ambulance procedures. STEMS Coordinator Alicia Broadbent joined in to show the kids around and help share summertime tips, including basic first aid and bike helmet safety. I'd like to thank OGH for allowing us to participate in this wonderful community program.
