The Value of Self Care
By Alisa Divine
|Want more time for YOU in 2018? Self care and women are not usually found in the same sentence. Self care is often misunderstood as selfish. Do you know that when we take time to care for ourselves, we actually increase our energy and ability to care for others?|
As the analogy heard on Oprah many years ago, when on an airplane, we are directed to put the oxygen mask on ourselves first and then help our children with theirs. This analogy has had a significant impact on how I've handled my own self care. Putting our own oxygen mask on first is being responsible and so is taking care of ourselves.
When we are full of life, as in oxygen and other life-giving activities - exercise, reading a book, a lunch date with a friend, an extra hour of sleep - we are better equipped to handle everyday events and challenges that arise and we are prepared to be the best version of ourselves.
Being responsible for our own happiness is a trait found in empowered women. Whether you are skilled in this, or at the beginning or your journey, it is helpful to have a reminder that you are worth taking the time for activities which nourish your body, mind, and soul.
Keep this affirmation in the forefront of your mind and repeat it often as you move throughout your day:
"I'm worthy of all the time and energy I spend on my health and well-being."
|"Nourishing yourself in a way that helps you blossom in the direction you want to go is attainable, and you are worth the effort."|
