Prehospital Treatment for Stroke Victims
There is a narrow window for treatment to take place for stroke victims, and that requires prehospital providers to take quick and rapid action. On Wednesday we hosted a Stroke Simulation Class in the STHCS Training Center with presenters from Catholic Health Mercy Hospital of Buffalo. Alex Foley, the Stroke Coordinator at Mercy Hospital of Buffalo, and Emily Rowles-Saraceni, the EMS Liason at Mercy Hospital of Buffalo, presented information on providing care to patients who have had a stroke. The instructors used simulation scenarios to deliver the instruction and included multiple situations for providers to consider. I want to thank Catholic Health Mercy Hospital of Buffalo for collaborating with us to provide this important training for our EMS providers.
Teen Dating Violence Prevention Event
Our Program Development Coordinator, Jeff Ciminesi, was at the Randolph Junior/Senior High School on Wednesday participating in an event to promote awareness and prevention of teen dating violence. Jeff joined Cattaraugus Community Action’s Prevention Education Specialist, Anna Swanson, Abigail Bailey, an intern from Fredonia State and Kale Luce, the School Resource Officer at Randolph to teach teens about the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationships. About 75 students participated in the event. The students wrote down actions that were healthy or unhealthy and labeled them as #thatslove or #thatsnotlove. The result was a great display of the signs of healthy or unhealthy relationships. This event was meant to start the conversation with teens about warning signs of dating violence. I want to thank Cattaraugus Community Action and the Randolph Junior/Senior High School for inviting us to participate in this event.
