BREAKING NEWS - Jason Buie Tribute/Fundraiser - Sunday April 29 Pacific Inn Rhumba Room
Breaking News
More Details to follow.

The good people of Hilton Hotels have made it possible for our Blues Fan Community to come together one last time at the Pacific Inn Rhumba Room before their renovation plans for remodeling are started.
On Sunday April 29th from 3:00 to 9:00 PM we can come together to celebrate Jason Buie's life and passion for the music he played so well.
Details will be announced in the days ahead. All proceeds are going towards the trust fund that has been established for his three children.
Calling all flappers, vamps, hoodlums, sugar daddies, red hot mamas, sheiks and shebas!
Get out your glad rags because you’re invited to the wildest ball of all - Club 240’s very own Gatsby Party, April 13 at 8 p.m. at the Crescent Legion, 2643 128 Street.

Dance the night away to the champagne rhythms of the Roaring `20s with Alexander Browne - ‘The Mad Hatter of Melody’ and his seven-piece band The Boulevardiers.
Fresh from a successful live-streamed showcase at White Rock’s Blue Frog Studios in November, Alexander and his all-star band (Henry Christian on trumpet, Jeremy Berkman on trombone, Tony Sheppard and Graham Howell on saxes and clarinets, Angus Kellett on piano, David Sabourin on tuba and John Cody on drums) are winning devoted new fans with each performance.
The bandleader, who has been described as “Oil Can Harry meets Cab Calloway,” channels the Jazz Age like no other performer on the scene today. Part music historian, part bon vivant, Alexander couples his smooth megaphone-crooner vocals with the fox trots, slow blues, Charlestons, waltzes, tangos and rumbas that put a sizzle in the 1920s. Close your eyes and you’ll swear you’ve time-travelled back to New York, London and Paris in that dazzling decade.

It’s a chance to dress to impress in your snazziest Gatsby-Era threads - there will be prizes for best single and couple costumes - as well as cut a rug on one of the finest dance floors in the Lower Mainland.
For those who work up a Prohibition-style thirst, suitable libations are available at the bar, and, for the hungry, Seriously Good Catering is ready to serve up taste bud treats you’ll agree are the ‘cat’s pajamas’ and the ‘bees knees’!

Note from The Editor
If you haven't heard by now it pains me to tell you that the Pacific Inn, "the Pink Palace",venue we have been using for 11 years is no more. The staff we have been working with over that time have all been let go or quit. Hilton Hotels purchased the property and a transition management outfit is planning to do a total refit to bring the venue up to Hilton standards. Major construction is in the works over the course of the year.
The society will keep busy with co promotions with the Blue Frog Studios and are reviewing other venue options. In addition we are reviewing the feasibility of conducting an International Blues Society event to select a solo/duo act and or a Band to sponsor for the 2019 IBC.

We do plan to have a couple of house shows with some top tier blues artists who are coming through town this summer and fall. More details to follow.
I'm often asked how one joins the White Rock Blues Society and the answer is quite simple. By subscribing to this newsletter you are a member of the society. We have over a thousand receiving the Bluesletter each week. We don't ask for dues. We only ask that you help support our aim of keeping the blues alive by attending our events or any other events supporting the blues genre. That simple.
We will be supporting the Mount Baker R&B Festival this summer as always and the Las Vegas "Blues Bender" in September because they are great events. Another great event is the Naniamo Blues Festival that brings top tier artists to the West Coast.
That's it for now.
Kenny 'Blues Boss' Wayne - Blue Frog Studios
APRIL 20, 2018
DOORS 6:00 PM    SHOW 7:00 PM

If you know and admire the styles and music of the great piano blues men, then you are in the right place to discover Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne.
This 3-time Juno Award winner/nominee and a multi Maple Blues Award winner is hailed by LIVING BLUES magazine as “an artist bringing the piano back to the front ranks of contemporary Blues.
After dozens of other international awards, the legendary Blues and Boogie-Woogie piano master Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne was inducted on August 9, 2017 into the Boogie Woogie Piano Hall of Fame at the Arches Piano Stage while performing at the Cincy Blues Festival in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Rediscovering his own blues roots long ago sent his career into overdrive, thanks to his fresh approach to old music, the drive and roaring good-time attitude of his live performances, and his smartly original self-penned songs. His main influences are Fats Domino and Chuck Berry’s long-time piano player Johnnie Johnson, as well as Amos Milburn, Bill Doggett and Johnny Otis, king of the West Coast blues sound of the ‘50s.  His bass-heavy boogie piano work, as well as his original songs, makes for powerful live performances, enhanced by the flashy splendor of his boldly colored, French custom-tailored stage suits.
Kenny Wayne’s live appearances all over North America and Europe were best summed up by a music writer who explained Wayne this way: “When a piano player’s got the four most important things — the playing, the voice, the songs and the look — he becomes the whole package, an artist you just have to see and hear.”
