Mental Health Awareness Training Grant
We are exploring the possibility of applying for a Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) grant to provide mental health awareness training. The purpose of the funding opportunity is to build or expand the capacity of organizations to provide training to individuals, such as EMS providers, law enforcement, school personnel, veterans and other community members, so they can better recognize the signs and symptoms of mental disorders. Organizations applying are encouraged to create linkages with mental health agencies to provide referrals to appropriate services when concerns about mental health are identified. We believe there is an unmet need for this type of training in our communities, and are exploring applying for this grant to provide these services in Allegany, Cattaraugus and Chautauqua counties. If you are interested in partnering with us on this opportunity, please reach out to us.
Community Events
STHCS staff has been busy with community education events the last couple of weeks. Last week, staff provided information about the SAFE program and services available to survivors of sexual assault at Jones Memorial Hospital in collaboration with Cattaraugus Community Action. Staff also attended the Chautauqua County Maternal and Infant Health Program’s Community Baby Shower in Dunkirk last week. This was a great opportunity to promote the ABCs of Safe Sleep to new and expectant parents. On Saturday, staff attended the Olean YMCA Healthy Kids Day event to promote various STHCS programs and provide information about applying for health insurance through the New York State of Health Marketplace. On Wednesday, staff attended JCC's "Spa Day" in Olean to provide information about health insurance navigation. I want to thank Jones Memorial Hospital, the Chautauqua County Maternal Infant Health Program, the Olean YMCA and JCC for inviting us to share this important information with members of the community as well as STHCS' staff members, Jeff Ciminesi, Stephanie Green and Corrie Malone for participating in these events.
