Ambulance Simulator
I’m excited about the progress we are making on the ambulance simulator for the STHCS Training Center. Mercy Flight donated an ambulance that we will be taking apart. The parts from the inside of the donated ambulance will be repurposed and will be used to create the inside of the ambulance simulator. I recently met with the builder to discuss the project and we are hoping to have the simulator ready for use in July. Building an ambulance simulator will allow our EMS students to practice providing care in a more real-life environment. To complement the ambulance simulator and provide realistic simulation education, we are also in the process of applying for an Appalachian Regional Commission grant to support the purchase of two high-fidelity simulation manikins for the Training Center. These manikins have the ability to be remotely controlled and can simulate many scenarios that EMS providers will see in the field. Instructors will be able to provide real-time feedback to students and use teachable moments during scenario-based education to strengthen the skills of our EMS students.
Cribs for Kids Grant
I’m pleased to report that we received a $1,500 grant from the Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation to support an expansion of our Cribs for Kids program to northern Chautauqua County. In anticipation of this opportunity, we established a partnership with the Salvation Army in Dunkirk. The Dunkirk Salvation Army will serve as our Safe Sleep Ambassador agency and will be the location where parents and caregivers receive safe sleep education and pick up their Pack ‘n Play. We will be conducting a train the trainer session for staff at the Salvation Army soon. We are looking forward to working with the Salvation Army and our other Safe Sleep Ambassador agencies in northern Chautauqua County to spread the safe sleep message and keep babies sleeping safely.
