This powerful formula developed by Pure Encapsulations helps "promote mental clarity, energy metabolism, immune support and antioxidant defense" to reduce physical and mental fatigue. The vegetarian capsules contain energy and immune-boosting Ashwagandha, which is also known as the Indian form of ginseng. The supplement also contains acetyl-l-carnitine which has been shown to improve mental performance and fatigue symptoms. If that weren't enough, the formulation also contains oxidative stress reducers N-acetyl-Lcysteine (NAC), selenium, and alpha lipoic acid, as well as Vitamin D3, magnesium citrate, and zinc to augment metabolism and combat fatigue. Wow!

Many individuals experience unexplained fatigue that significantly impacts quality of life and the ability to successfully carry out daily activities. It is important to investigate possible causes that may be playing a role such as thyroid issues, anemia, nutritional deficiencies, metabolic disorders, sleep problems, untreated or undiagnosed sleep apnea, depression, immune disorders, heart conditions, neurologic disorders, inadequately managed pain, and even side effects from medications. Other factors known to cause fatigue include cancer treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation.
It is estimated that greater than 2 million people in the US suffer from chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), which is defined as having severe, debilitating fatigue as well as physical symptoms (such as muscle pain) for greater than six months. There is often an overlap of CFS with depression and/or other conditions that should be treated appropriately to optimize health outcomes.
For most, however, fatigue impacts daily functioning to a lesser degree. Daily variations in energy though often affect our ability to accomplish goals and tasks at work and at home. A proven strategy to decrease fatigue is physical activity. There have been a number of studies demonstrating the benefits of physical activity for patients suffering from fatigue and even cancer-related fatigue (such as breast and colon cancer).
Herbal supplements such as Withania somnifera (Ashwagandha) have also been shown to be helpful in improving fatigue, with one study illustrating its superiority to coenzyme Q10 in patients suffering from statin-induced fatigue. Others have found Vitamin B12 injections to provide an energy boost. Acupuncture is another complimentary therapy that has been shown to be very successful in reducing fatigue.
In summary, fatigue can be related to a myriad of possible factors. Restful and adequate sleep, regular exercise, and a healthy diet go a long way in setting the stage for an energized life. Sometimes just taking a little time for yourself each day to rest and regroup can provide a fresh approach and even a second wind! However, if you find yourself feeling fatigued more than you think you should and can't seem to shake it, a thorough workup ought to be conducted in order to identify possible biologic/physiologic causes for the fatigue and seek appropriate treatment if needed.
Katie Ghiotto has been coaching clients for the past several years on how to live a healthy life from the inside out with the help of "green chemistry" - Arbonne's botanically-based nutrition and skin products. She will share her personal experience about how she sought help for her baby's eczema and discovered pure, non-toxic sustainable products through Arbonne. She will be at Palm Valley Primary Care on Thursday, June 7th from 6:00-7:00pm!
Katie is passionate about explaining how symptoms many attribute to the normal process of aging do not, in fact, have to be something we accept without questioning. She will discuss how hitting the "reset button" can help promote healthy changes that can become integrated into our lifestyles over the long term.
