Networking with WNY Healthy Community Coalition
I was pleased to attend the June meeting of the WNY Healthy Community Coalition in West Seneca last Friday. An initiative of the Western New York Population Health Collaborative, the WNYHCC advances population health improvement strategies in the region with a focus on nutrition and active living. One of their recent efforts is the 2018 Walking to Wellness campaign, where they challenge registered participants to walk a collective 100 million steps this year. The WNYHCC quarterly meetings are designed to be productive and interactive with an emphasis on collaboration and networking. I enjoyed the opportunity to meet and talk with members of other area agencies and share information about STHCS to get ideas about how to align resources and expertise for a healthy and safe Western New York.
StrOlean 2018
We had a great turnout of visitors to the STHCS tent during StrOlean Fest last Friday. This Chamber of Commerce event is held three times a year to encourage area residents to enjoy food, music, events and activities along Olean’s “main street,” North Union. Our tent was set up right in front of our new building, with a colorful display of information about our programs. Program Assistant Toni Cottone and I were there throughout the day to talk with visitors and offer giveaways like stress balls and hand sanitizer. We also gave out several bicycle helmets as a reminder from our Child Health and Safety Team that all bikers should wear safety helmets and know the proper way to wear one. I’d like to thank the Chamber and all our business neighbors along North Union Street for this successful community event.
