Open House is Fast Approaching

We invite everyone to come celebrate growth at our Open House from 2 to 6 p.m. this coming Tuesday. We’re very excited for board members, stakeholders and other community visitors to tour the upgrades we’ve made at our new home, 150 North Union Street in Olean. For one, we recently completed construction of the Walter L. Reisner Memorial Ambulance Simulator on the second floor at the rear of our building. It’ll no doubt be the highlight of the tours that day. We built this valuable training tool for less than $10,000 -- instead of buying one for over $90,000 -- thanks to the generosity of the Reisners, Mercy Flight, Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation and other community gifts on #NYGivesDay. Also, our new distance-learning equipment is up and running in the new Training Center.

Please RSVP by clicking here or by visiting our homepage at www.sthcs.org and clicking the “Click Here To RSVP” button. I’d like to thank Ruth Reisner for keeping her late husband’s memory alive in educating the next generations of EMTs as well as everyone else who helped our move. We can now do more than ever before!

BoatUS Grant Application

We recently submitted a letter of intent to apply for $10,000 in funding from the BoatUS Foundation Grassroots Grants Program. We should hear back within the month if we’re invited to submit a full application. Our initial proposal, to be implemented by the Child Health and Safety Team (CHST) if successful, calls for an expansion of our current boater-safety campaign. Funding would purchase personal floatation devices (PFDs) for adults and children to be placed in secure containers next to our paddling safety signs at developed access points along the Allegheny and Genesee rivers. We also propose purchasing waterproof cell phone cases inscribed with water-safety tips in addition to a paid social media campaign highlighting statistics and more safety advice.

The grant program calls for innovative ways to teach water safety to a broad audience, with a specific emphasis on using technology. We welcome additional feedback and suggestions.
