West Seattle UCC Churches Join Forces to Support UCC Immigrant Welcoming Congregations Initiative
After worship last Sunday at Admiral Church, Anne Van Dyne, Sue Backs, Doug Gunwaldsen and I joined members of Admiral and Fauntleroy UCC to discuss how the three congregations could work together on the immigration crisis. When asked for our personal reasons for participating, responses ranged from “I’m just angry,” to “I’m sickened by our country’s policy of separating families,” to “This is what my faith calls me to do.”

Join us! Anyone and everyone is welcome to participate in working on this issue. Our first step is to develop short and long term “learning and action models” to engage, educate and mobilize our individual congregations and our community in this critical work. The issues of asylum, immigration and family separation will be central to our work, which will be guided by the principles of the UCC's "Immigrant Welcoming Congregations" initiative.

Please contact the Church Office to be kept informed of future meetings/activities and to get involved. — Cinda Stenger

  • shampoo,
  • towels,
  • washcloths and
  • feminine products
are requested, as well as

By next week, we will also have created online wish lists at Target and Amazon so that you can select and ship your donations directly with just a few clicks.

Host Homes Needed for Homeless Youth through YMCA Program
YMCA's proven and successful Host Home Program matches homeless young people aged 18-24 with community hosts who provide a living space and a vital opportunity for these youth to experience stability and build living skills.

More than 1500 homeless young adults spend their nights without safe shelter. Because this age group has been deceptively characterized as "single/employable adults," targeted resources and services are little-to-none, exacerbating hunger and desperation.

How you can make a difference:
Participants are clean/sober, have a case manager and life goals for jobs/education/permanent housing. Most have jobs or are in school during the day. Hosts, who are 21 or older, participate for 6 months. They provide an available room/private space, meals and encouragement. Hosts are also asked to have home/renter's insurance and to talk with their guest's Case Manager as needed.

Hosts also receive a $300 monthly stipend for expenses.
More information here, OR contact Scott: (206) 749-7545.

This is a simple/direct way to make an impact on our homeless crisis. Thank you, Cinda Stenger
