Enhancing Pediatric Emergency Care

On behalf of our Child Health and Safety Team (CHST), I am happy to report that Southern Tier Health Care System is in the process of working with Health Research, Inc. (HRI) and the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) to apply for a federal funding opportunity via the Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) State Partnership Program. If funded through the Pediatric Emergency Care Coordinator (PECC) Learning Collaborative Demonstration Project, we would work toward establishing a PECC at every local EMS agency in the state. The purpose of a PECC is to identify shortcomings and barriers to pediatric care, advocate for local policy changes, and ensure agencies and departments always have the proper training, medications and equipment to treat children. Children shouldn’t be treated as little adults when it comes to health care - much less emergency prehospital care. But that’s often the case at many EMS agencies and emergency departments. The establishment of PECCs would work to ensure pediatrics receives the focus they require.
Walt Reisner Ambulance Simulator Dedication Held

It was a very special day in honor of a great man and a local emergency services trailblazer. On Thursday, we hosted the family, extended family and friends of Walt Reisner for the dedication of our ambulance simulator that was built in his name here at the STHCS Training Center. This training simulator will continue his life’s work of providing quality EMS services to the area. The “Wally Mobile” will now educate local EMS providers for years to come.
