ENABLING TECHNOLOGY
The Arc Tennessee and the Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Summer Community Forums on Enabling Technology
WHAT IS ENABLING TECHNOLOGY?
Any item, equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially, modified, or customized that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities.
Sometimes called Assistive Technology or Remote Monitoring, enabling technology includes audio, video, sensors and apps, some with GPS-capability, for use in homes and in the community. It’s a model that combines the best of technology and direct care to create safe environments while maximizing the independence of people with developmental disabilities.

FAMILY SUPPORT PROGRAM
In 1992, the Tennessee General Assembly passed legislation establishing a statewide Family Support Program. Statewide funding for this program is determined by our state legislators on a yearly basis. The program is administered by the State of Tennessee Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and managed in Williamson County by The Arc Williamson County. The program is designed to assist individuals with severe disabilities and their families to remain together in their homes and communities by providing financial assistance and community resource information.
Applications are accepted any time throughout the year but if you are applying after March 31, and your are found eligible, you will most likely be placed on a waiting list as completed applications for the following fiscal year are due by March 31st every year.  Completed applications include a completed, signed Intake Form and the necessary proofs-disability, citizenship and residency. The Intake/Application Form and our handbook which explains acceptable forms of proof, can be found on our website at www.thearcwc.org or by contacting Sharon at 615-790-5815, ext. 3.
