Supporting the Next Generation of EMS Leaders
Our Southern Tier Emergency Medical System (STEMS) program is applying for the Recruitment and Retention Grant Program through the NYS Division of Homeland Security & Emergency Services (DSHES). If approved for this funding, we will be better positioned to help our volunteer EMS agencies prepare for future turnover.

When EMS providers retire, they often take valuable leadership skills with them. Agencies serving our small, rural communities cannot afford that experience and leadership void. Through this program, we hope to develop a regional fellowship of up-and-coming EMS leaders to provide ongoing coaching and mentorship for the next generation of leaders. In the end, we will have a greater capacity to train and retain a strong network of responders.
Statewide EMS Program Agency Conference Call

STEMS Coordinator Alicia Broadbent and I were pleased to participate in a conference call Wednesday morning with the other 18 EMS program agencies in New York. We would like to thank NYSDOH Bureau of EMS and Trauma Systems (BEMSTS) Director Ryan Greenberg for hosting what we hope was the first of many monthly sessions.

It was great to hear perspectives and visions from other EMS coordinators around the state. Some weren’t very different from our own ideas and experiences, and others offered unique insights and approaches to emergency services. Director Greenberg discussed several new initiatives with an emphasis on pediatrics, quality assurance and quality improvement. We look forward to working toward these goals.
Vital Signs Conference Registration Still Open
Director Greenberg wishes to remind all EMS providers that registration for the Vital Signs Conference in October remains open. The conference will be held Wednesday, Oct. 10 - Sunday, Oct. 14 in Syracuse. It’ll include some preconference programs, a networking session and many EMS-education workshops. Here is a link to register.
