CEO Update
Congratulations, Karen Madden

I would like to congratulate Karen Madden on winning the Senator McGee Rural Health Award at last week’s New York State Association for Rural Health (NYSARH) Conference in Cortland. Karen is Director of the Charles D. Cook Office of Rural Health. She has also served on numerous state and national committees and boards devoted to rural health policy. She was instrumental in the naming of November 15th as National Rural Health Day.

In accepting the award, Karen credited members of her staff -- Carley Marbot, John Nittinger, Helen Smith and Lisa Brown. Her dedicated staff, she said, are “the ones behind the scenes allowing her to be the face of rural health at the state and national levels.” It’s a pleasure to work alongside Karen and her team at the Office of Rural Health to improve the health and wellness of our communities.
NYS Health Foundation Grant Proposal for CHST

This week we completed a pre-application for funding through the New York State Health Foundation Special Projects Fund. We will be notified in November if invited to complete the next step in the grant process. Our proposal pays homage to the notion that “it takes a village to raise a child” to be safe and healthy. It expands the scope and membership of our current Child Health and Safety Team (CHST) to be more inclusive of the range of health professionals and community leaders who promote the wellness of children in body, mind and spirit. We hope to build upon the strong foundation we already have to develop a more holistic approach to child health and safety.
