Our STEMS Coordinator Alicia Broadbent attended Nonprofit Networking Day on Wednesday, Oct. 17. The annual Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation (CRCF) event offered insights for area nonprofits. The keynote speaker was Michael E. Hill, President of the Chautauqua Institution, who led a presentation titled “Nonprofit Crystal Ball: What Does the Future Hold?”
Alicia attended two very informative breakout sessions. The first was “Getting the Most out of Your Special Event” by Beth Palumbo, Director of Marketing at St. Bonaventure University. The second was “Toolkit for Facebook Success” by John Jiloty, VP of Social Media and Content at The Martin Group. Alicia also attended a separate session on CRCF’s second annual Cattaraugus Gives event, which will be during NY Gives Day on Nov. 27.

Our Sexual Assault Forensic Examiners (SAFEs) will be participating in a learning opportunity through the University of Rochester School of Nursing. U of R recently received a NYS Legislative grant to better serve survivors of sexual assault by helping health-care providers develop skills and earn SAFE certification. We look forward to working with Dee Krebs, Director of the Sexual Assault Examiner program at U of R, to ensure our SAFE providers are equipped to deliver the highest quality of care to survivors of sexual assault.
I’d like to congratulate Sandra Watkins, from Olean General Hospital, for her recent NYS Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner-Adult/Adolescent (SANE-A) certification. Two additional trainees in our program are also nearing certification.
