Expanding Our Training and Education Reach
I’m excited to report that this week we held the first multi-site distance-learning education session in our new Training Center. The DL class connected our Training Center with satellite sites in Gerry, Cuba and Wellsville. Approaching Alzheimer’s was presented to approximately 40 participating EMS providers by Chelsea O’Hara, Outreach Coordinator for the Alzheimer’s Association of Western New York. She explained strategies that can be used when treating an individual with dementia and tips to overcome difficulties that may arise.

I’d like to thank Chelsea for sharing this Alzheimer’s education with us. I'd also like to thank all the trainees and local coordinators at the remote sites for the feedback on how they felt this type of training can be utilized in the future. Here are some additional resources for caregivers of people with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia.
Medications and ‘A Matter of Balance’
We’ve now hosted several A Matter of Balance trainings this month to help older individuals learn methods and build strength to avoid falls. I would like to thank Olean General Hospital for sharing their resources with us this week. Alex Coppola, a clinical pharmacist from Olean General Hospital, shared tips to limit risks associated with medications which cause dizziness and disorientation.

I’d also like to thank Ardent Solutions of Wellsville and Healthy Community Alliance of Gowanda for partnering with us to make these trainings possible.
