Alki UCC Weekly Messenger January 4
Worship at Admiral UCC This Sunday, 10:30 am
This Sunday, January 6, we make the trek uphill for a 10:30 am combined worship service at Admiral UCC, 4320 SW Hill St.

The Spiritual Travelers, a special group composed of Alki UCC members and friends, will provide musical and dramatic reflection on the story of Epiphany. They will expand the circle beyond the "three kings" to include their wives, and deepen our experience of Holy Communion — one of Christianity's most recognizable rituals for shared commitment to God's Kin(g)dom.

Church School and childcare are suspended until next Sunday.
Alki UCC Choir Workshop
Saturday, January 19
3:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
RSVPs needed.

All choir members are getting together after the Women's March earlier that day. During the workshop, we'll be singing, reviewing our membership agreements, along with getting new anthem schedules and music for the spring.

We'll have our regular potluck feed, so bring whatever you want to share.

For all people interested in joining the choir, this is the very best time to start! Please contact Jane Gunwaldsen, jgunwaldsen@gmail.com, or the Church Office, to receive a copy of the 2018 Choir agreement and more details, so you can start getting to know us.

Continuing thanks to everyone who contributed to our Alki Christmas Concert success!

Critical WIN meeting Monday, January 21
  to Support Camp Second Chance
The Seattle City Council will soon decide if Camp Second Chance can stay at its current location or be relocated to a new site.

We must let the city know how strongly we feel about keeping them in their home!

Please attend a critical meeting of the Westside Interfaith Network (WIN) to advocate for the camp (our friends!) to stay on Myers Way. Tiny House volunteers, choir members — EVERYONE — needs to attend this meeting to be a true show of force of love and support for the camp. PLEASE ATTEND!

Your Outreach Donations at Work
Last month, just as the choir was departing after a long Sunday rehearsal, a young man came bounding into the church asking for help on a referral from Admiral Church.

Dan Kennedy and I sat down with him and heard his story of addiction, loss and regret. He had lost his ID and was now homeless in Seattle after visiting his birth father, with whom he had hoped to reconnect before having a change of heart.

He desperately needed to get back to St Louis, asking for a bus ticket to return to his young family and rebuild his life. Dan and I decided to purchase the ticket for him; then Dan took him downtown to seek shelter for the night and prepare for departing the next day.

Thanks to your generous Outreach contributions and support of the work we do with the homeless, we were able to get this young man back to his family and hopefully on the road to recovery.

"7 Spiritual Practces for the New Year"
Alki UCC's Parish Nurse, Emily Hitchens, would like to share information on "7 Spiritual Practices," referred to her by the faith community nursing organization to which she belongs.

It's widely believed that cultivating our faith life is an important part of wellness.
Check this out for some suggestions on how to gain new perspective of yourself, others and God throughout the year.
