“Wintry mix of snow and sleet…” will eventually lead to SPRING! Yes, friends, welcome to February, a mere 28 days bringing us deeper into winter. But there’s hope! Spring will come. We have proof in the lengthening of the days and the extra rays of sunshine. We are fortunate here in New England because we have a great deal of “solar value”. We enjoy bright sunshine – even on snowy days. I recall working in Indianapolis where it seemed the sun never shone. It was dark and dreary so often. I longed for our crisp, sunny days in Connecticut.
So whatever you must do to ward off the potential doldrums of February… do it! Take advantage of sunny days to take a walk and get some extra Vitamin D. Sit for a few extra minutes in your car and let the sun warm you. Follow the example of so many of our lovable pets who seek out the sun throughout the course of a day… moving from window to door to window to soak up the rays. Soon, many of us will no longer leave for work and drive home in the dark. So be encouraged!
You might also be encouraged by the coming and goings of our loving community of faith here at First Church. Our worship will be lively this month as we learn from the prophet, Jeremiah, hear from the sons of Korah, and look closely at the “Be-attitudes”.
Because February is a short month, I want to give you a glimpse into our March services for Lent. Ash Wednesday is March 6. Please plan to join us at 7 PM for a special service as we enter this time of preparation. For the weeks of Lent, we will offer an evening gathering in the Parish Hall. Join us for 40 minutes (modeled after the 40 days of Lent) on some important Lenten topics – and enjoy a “fasting feast”. The full schedule will be published in the March Newsletter. Our Sunday services will also reflect these topics. Come and fellowship with others and deepen your faith. Bring a friend!
Be blessed as we journey together,
Pastor Marilyn will be in her office on Mondays and Thursdays. Please call the church office to make an appointment. Her confidential email address is: firstname.lastname@example.org
February Sunday School Schedule
Feb 3 - Sunday School
Feb 10 - Sunday School
Feb 17 - NO Sunday School
Feb 24 - NO Sunday School
During January, our Sunday school children focused on our new theme of Service. They were introduced to John 13:14 “Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet”, as they brainstormed the needs of our community. As we reflected on our own individual needs and wants, they discussed what they feel are the top 3 needs for our community (community meaning the many communities we belong to- First Church, Hartland, CT, United States, Earth) .
In February, we will take our next step. Our children will take what they feel is our top 3 needs in our community and develop an action plan to start serving in the Lord’s name. Our scripture focus is Matthew 5:42 “Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.”
Stay tuned as our children unfold their plans and begin God’s work!
First Church in Hartland's Sunday School program is for children aged 4+. We Welcome everyone and you can join at any time during the school year (Sept. - May).
- NO Sunday School program is scheduled for the last Sunday of every month, and some holiday weekends. Please check the CE Calendar or the Calendar link (listed below in the newsletter) for all dates.
All children will attend worship with their parents at 10:00 a.m. on Sundays. After the Children's Sermon they will be brought across the street to the Parish Hall by the teachers and have a Sunday school lesson. Please note that for some special events we meet at 9:00am.
A Nursery Room is available, in the back of the Sanctuary, for infants through kindergarten ages. This room has a monitor so parents can watch the service and also take care of their children whom they feel are unable to sit through the worship service.
In the unlikely event of inclement weather when church is cancelled, please check WFSB.com "Closings and Delays".
