Sky Vessel by Willi Haye
Willi Haye lived her formative years in the Netherlands, immersed in the art of artist parents and their colleagues and friends who were mainly interested in abstract art. While raising her family and working as an RN, she spent many years working in photography. It was not until moving to Santa Fe, NM in 1997 that she abandoned photography and started sculpting with wood and steel. For the past nine years, she has been working with mainly cast glass, as the colors and endless possibilities were, and still are, so intriguing. While Willi's art show participations have been numerous and furthered her glass art, a life altering experience was attending the Kamenicky Senov School of Glass in Bohemia, Czech Republic during 2016 and studying with Glass Maestro Petr Stacho. This led to creation of abstract sculptures that appear simple at first glance, but on closer inspection, often reveal an alternate space within the glass.
Creating sculptural objects, whether in steel, wood or glass (or a combination), requires a related series of experiments, thereby continuing to explore varying avenues of expression. Although some of her glass castings are representational, they are more about exploration of color, form and design - and an endless series of ongoing discoveries.
