JOANNE KEANE DLI CHAIRMAN
During the 10 years she has served on the Board of DLI, Joanne has had the roles of Compliance Officer, National Secretary, Company Secretary, Magazine Editor and Vice-Chairman. She is honoured to have been elected Chairman and will do her utmost to serve the organisation and the members over the next two years. Joanne is also Chairman of Balally Players, Dublin.

She'd like to acknowledge Jackie Scanlan for all he contributed to the DLI Board as Chairman, and as Secretary of the 6 & 6 ADCI/DLI Joint Committee and thank Mary J. Egan, outgoing Membership Secretary. Anne Mekitarian did Trojan work as Summer School director for many years. Now Willie O'Brien and his team are working hard and have a great line-up organised for UL.

‘Health and Safety’ is a critical issue these days. Development of ‘Safety Statements’, ‘Risk Assessment Checklists’ and ‘Risk Management Plans’ is becoming increasingly important. This is an area where groups are crying out for assistance. DLI will organise a facilitator from the new insurance company JLT to guide groups at Regional Workshops to be held during the year.

The number of groups participating on the drama circuits is crucial to being able to run festivals and a successful circuit. How more groups can be encouraged to participate on the circuit needs to be investigated further.

She is interested in meeting with representatives from the adjudicators bodies; ADA, GIDA, GODA and independent adjudicators, in association with ADCI, to try and ensure more of a standard of adjudication at festivals.

Joanne would like to link in with the drama groups and festivals around the country to acknowledge the great work that is being done on behalf of amateur drama, to see how DLI can assist, and to get people involved, in perhaps assisting at Summer School, writing plays, submitting articles to the Magazine, running festivals, providing sponsorship.

Well done to those who competed on the full length circuit. Rita McInerney, Noilin Hayes and team in Doonbeg did a fantastic job with the Bostik All Ireland Confined Finals and it was a pleasure to see the excitement and joy of Holycross/Ballycahill Drama Group on Saturday night when they scooped up the premier award. Good luck is wished to Regina Bushell as she takes up the position of RTE All Ireland Drama Festival Director, to Doreen Holloway and team in Athlone and of course to all the finalists.
She looks forward to engaging with you all throughout the year!
