EMS Instructor Certification Update
I’d like to congratulate Brian Wilcox for completing the first phase of his EMS instructor internship for NYS certification. He’s now advancing to the Certified Instructor Coordinator (CIC) internship, which has a deeper focus on policies and other steps necessary for administering the trainings to our providers. Brian, a Flight Paramedic with Mercy Flight of WNY, has been an outstanding instructor for our Stop the Bleed program and CPR trainings as well as a WREMAC-approved skills evaluator. Once certified by NYS, he will be a great addition to our formal EMS Training Program. I’d also like to thank our current EMS faculty members Phil Wilson, Tim Richardson, Mickey Forness and Todd Riesner for their mentorship during this process.
Building Community Wealth and Resilience
This week, Alicia and I, along with several staff members from our member agencies, were invited to attend the Western Region Building Community Wealth and Resilience conference in Ellicottville. This is a partnership between the NYS Department of Health Office of Public Health Practice, 100 Million Healthier Lives and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The term “community wealth,” in this case, is not a financial status but a measure of assets benefiting the health and well-being of our communities. During this meeting, we brainstormed how community organizations can work more collaboratively to address health disparities. After attending this session, we look forward to using these methods to improve the social, economic and environmental factors that shape health outcomes in our area.
