CEO Update
Safe Kids Southern Tier New York

STHCS has been working on becoming a member of Safe Kids Worldwide, which works with state and regional coalitions in the United States to reduce preventable child injuries and fatalities from traffic accidents, drowning, falls, burns, unsafe sleep and more. We are excited to share with you that STHCS has been approved to be the lead of regional coalition: Safe Kids Southern Tier New York. Being a member of Safe Kids will give us access to high-quality educational and marketing materials along with the opportunity to secure additional resources that can be introduced in our area.

Next week, May 5-12, 2019 is Safe Kids week. I’m excited to celebrate Safe Kids Week as an official  member of Safe Kids Worldwide.

Thank you all around…

I want to thank our STEMS Coordinator Alicia Broadbent and Mickey Forness of the Southwestern Regional EMS Council (SWREMSCO) for planning a very successful Spring Training conference.  EMS providers from across our tri-county area attended our spring training event which was held last Friday and Saturday at Good Times of Olean. The conference this year focused on advancements in pre-hospital Trauma Care.

I also need to thank all of our expert speakers who presented Friday, starting with Ryan Greenberg, NYSDOH Bureau of EMS Director; Bradley Sprague, STAT Transport Team Coordinator from Oishei Children’s Hospital; and Jeff Abbott, Trauma Injury Prevention Coordinator & Community Outreach Educator from Oishei Children’s Hospital. On Saturday we kicked off the morning with Beth Moses, Trauma Injury Prevention and Education Coordinator from Erie County Medical Center; Kyle David Bates, MS, NR-P; Dr. Brian Walters, DO, Medical Director; Noel Guttman; and Andy Brodell. We’re very fortunate to have such dedicated emergency medical professionals who are willing to share their knowledge and expertise with the EMS providers who protect our communities.

We’re happy to offer this valuable educational asset in coordination with SWREMSCO. Once again, over 200 providers from across southwestern New York and northwestern Pennsylvania attended to develop EMS skills and work toward higher credentials.
