CEO Update
Mental Health Month
This May, Southern Tier Health Care System is working to spreading awareness for Mental Health Month. One in five (46.6 million) adults in the United States experience a mental health condition in a given year. I am pleased to report that we have been awarded funding through The John R. Oishei Foundation to support bringing a train the trainer session for Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) to our area. This will allow up to 15 people to be trained to become instructors of MHFA and will include an EMS module to the training. If you or one of your staff members is interested in becoming an MHFA instructor, please feel free to reach out to me.
Cadaver Lab
This past Wednesday, providers from the Paramedic and AEMT classes had the opportunity to receive hands-on experience at the University at Buffalo Cadaver Lab. These providers had the chance to learn how to perform intubations and other skills while working with the cadavers. I would like to thank UBMD Emergency Medicine Division and especially Dr. Brian Clemency, DO, UBMD EMS Fellowship Director and current UBMD EMS Fellows; Dr. Charlotte Crowley, MD; and Dr. Michael Waldrop, MD for partnering with us to make this learning opportunity available for our providers as this opportunity is always an incredibly beneficial experience.
