WREMAC Meeting Held at STHCS
Southern Tier Health Care System hosted the May meeting for the Western Regional Emergency Medical Advisory Committee (WREMAC) this week. Topics discussed included a WREMAC policy development on field termination for cardiac arrest patients. Additionally, Alexandria Foley, RN, BSN, WCC, Stroke Coordinator at Catholic Health Mercy Hospital of Buffalo, presented on the FAST-ED large-vessel occlusion (LVO) stroke assessments. These ongoing discussions are critical to developing and promoting high-quality patient care in the Western region of New York State.
National EMS Week
We’re excited to join all of our EMS agencies in kicking off National EMS Week -- May 19-25. The theme this year is “Beyond the Call,” which is certainly appropriate for how hard our agencies work to serve our rural communities. We invite all agencies to participate in the statewide “EMS on Tour” event from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 19. In an effort to promote the value of local EMS, NYSDOH Bureau of EMS and Trauma Systems is calling on agencies to bring their ambulances and other equipment to a popular public place and engage community members. We have encouraged EMS agencies to pick out a park, shopping center or local event venue and interact with as many people as possible!

Each day of the week will feature various themes like “Safety Tuesday” and “EMS for Children Day” on Wednesday. There will be cookouts and other events at local hospitals. I invite you to check out our EMS Week 2019 Guide for tips to get the most out of the week’s activities.
