St. Gerard House Receives Melvin R. Lane Grant Funding
St. Gerard House was one of six nonprofits awarded the Melvin R. Lane grant in June. We want to express our gratitude to The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina for blessing us with this grant. The funding will be used to purchase fundraising software and hire a Director of Development, who will assist SGH in growing programs and services for those with autism and their families in WNC.

House Bill 671 supports objective standards for BCBAs
This spring, a behavior analyst licensure bill (House Bill 671) introduced to the NC House of Representatives was passed unanimously. This bill would help reduce the extensive waiting lists for critical services in NC, and is now waiting to be heard in the Senate. Among populous states, NC has the highest unmet demand for Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) services. North Carolina is the only state in the U.S. with the current strict requirement of psychologist oversight for Board Certified Behavioral Analysts (BCBAs). Supporting this bill will significantly reduce waiting lists for ABA therapies, allow for direct billing to insurance companies, and protect organizations like St. Gerard House by establishing uniform standards and helping to attract qualified BCBAs to work with us! Access the bill.
If you would like to support the bill by contacting your local senator, please do.
Camp Discovery visits WNC Air Museum
Camp Discovery had a wonderful time at the Western North Carolina Air Museum. June only kicks off the summer for these eight to 11 year-old explorers! They'll continue discovering their talents through field trips, STEM projects, friendships and more through the first week of August. Check out the post on the SGH Facebook page for a photo album of all the fun!
