Suicide Prevention Events Fast Approaching
The Cattaraugus County Out of the Darkness Walk for suicide prevention will be at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 15 at Good Times of Olean. As of this writing, the pre-fundraising activities for the walk have raised over $14,000 of the $40,000 goal to support the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. In recent years, it's been touching to see walkers participating in teams honoring lost loved ones and community members. If you’re interested in attending, click here to pre-register

Also, as a reminder, we’ll soon host a series of three SafeTALK suicide-prevention trainings here at STHCS’ Training Center, 150 N. Union St., Olean. They’re organized in coordination with the Cattaraugus County Suicide Prevention Coalition and Cattaraugus County Health Department. The first training will be from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, Sept. 9 to begin Cattaraugus County’s Suicide Prevention Week. The second will be from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, Oct. 10. These first two sessions are reserved for those working in Human Services and living and/or working in Cattaraugus County. The third SafeTALK training will be from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, Nov. 14 and will honor Veterans Day with preference for veterans, current military and their families. Here's a link to register.

We’ve supported many suicide-prevention events to accomplish a key part of our rural health mission: erasing mental health stigma and providing critical resources. We aim to help community members recognize warning signs, talk through strong feelings and urge people who may be suffering to seek help.
