President's Greeting
Carol Lupton
LMEA President

I would like to make you aware of some changes your LMEA Board recently approved that will go into effect this spring. The first, and most visible for the band division, is the updating and “freshening” of the adjudicating forms used for our Musical Performance Assessment. While the choral division updated their sight reading form several years ago, the band forms have probably not been updated since 1959, when LMEA was incorporated. Examples of the new forms will be available for you to examine, they aren’t radically different, but they have been updated to incorporate the most up-to-date criteria of evaluation as used in education today.

I am very excited to announce that beginning at the 2020 LMEA Professional Development Conference, ensembles will be recognized with the Robert L. Wilhite Award of Excellence. This award, named in honor of LMEA Hall of Fame member Robert L. Wilhite, will be awarded to recognize quality high school and middle school instrumental music programs serving historically disadvantaged student populations. More information concerning this award will be forth coming.

And finally, your board as re-instated the LMEA State Solo Assessment. Information concerning this performance opportunity for your students will be available online and with your District Directors.
