Pop-Up Art Show Saturday
Saturday Nov. 9 from 10-4

Join us this Saturday for our Staff Artists Pop-Up Art Show. Featured artists are Joel Cole, Jayne Harnett-Hargrove, and Claire Simpson Jones - these super talented artists are also plant lovers and among the creative staff members at Reems Creek Nursery. You may purchase artwork directly from the artist during this one day show.

Joel Cole is a native to Weaverville who studied under City and Guilds of London for faux finishes, lived in New York City until 1994, returning home to expand his gardening and painting skills for a simpler life.

Jayne Harnett-Hargrove is a picture maker gleaning slices of stories from the road of memory and personal mythology, threading symbolism and pushing the oft non-sequitur into meaning - where images expand and enlighten the written prose.

Claire Simpson Jones works primarily with watercolor, striving to capture the impact nature has on our lives. Whether painting landscapes or women in nature, her work reflects her deeply rooted passion for our natural environment.

CONIFER CONNECTION
The Beauty & Wonder of Dwarf & Miniature Conifers
With Matt Timmer

Join Matt Timmer for a passionate discussion on the marvels of dwarf and miniature conifers – including general conifer care and maintenance; how and where to site your conifers for years of success and beauty; and success with conifers in container gardens. He will speak to the differences between large, dwarf, and miniature conifers (so cute), and explore the palette of texture, color, sizes and uses that conifers bring to the table.

Matt will include time for a Q & A session and invite you to join him for a walkabout after the workshop to meet some of his favorites. For new gardeners and “coneheads” alike! Free, but please pre-register at the Garden Center or call 828-645-3937.

 Fall Reflections
FROM WILMA:  Bill and I enjoy the views from our kitchen window especially in the mornings. At this time of year “North Knob” (a prominent mountaintop) takes on a distinct beauty with sunrises on its muted fall foliage colors. We like to stand at the window with our morning coffee and watch birds feeding on nearby ornamental grasses and other plants.

Now is a good time to make notes about your garden and landscape - what did well and what did not -changes, new areas, etc. I made notes last spring to add bulbs to an area. I thought I remembered where the existing bulbs were but - lo and behold - I did not and chopped into some of them. Plant labeling is important!

Autumn can be one of the most pleasant times to be in the garden.
