CEO Update
Infant Safe Sleep Grant
I’m happy to report our new Safe Kids Southern Tier New York coalition has received funding to build our infant safe-sleep programming. Safe Kids Worldwide, in partnership with the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), has awarded us a $2,000 grant for an ongoing community education and outreach project. Funding will allow us to purchase materials promoting the ABCs of Safe Sleep and to launch a big public event this coming summer. It will be an interactive event geared toward new and expectant parents/caregivers in our counties. This project will also piggyback off our longstanding Cribs for Kids program, which will continue offering free, safe Pack ’n Play cribs and infant safe-sleep education as before. To date, Cribs for Kids has given 431 cribs and directly trained 556 parents/caregivers in need across the catchment.

Becoming a Safe Kids coalition earlier this year has proven fruitful. In these early stages, we’ve been able to initiate a handful of successful community initiatives and outreach campaigns. As a coalition, we’re now able to positively impact the health and wellness of children in ways we never could before.
How to Speak to Your Loved One's Physician
On November 13, 2019, Southern Tier Health Care System will partner with the  Cattaraugus County Department of the Aging to explain to caregivers how to effectively communicate with their loved one and their physician. This educational opportunity is in support of our caregiver navigation program that aims to be a resource to caregivers in our community to help connect caregivers to existing resources. If you have any suggestions for educational events for caregivers, please email prevention@sthcs.org. To register for event, call us at (716) 372-0614 x205.
