EMS Simulation Lab Update
We continue researching and testing equipment for our EMS Simulation Lab, with support from a large matching grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC). The ARC grant was the result of several years of planning and grant development. As I reported earlier, we received notification of this funding in August and immediately began looking into the best paths forward. Alicia Broadbent and I met recently with representatives from Laerdal to demonstrate and discuss the simulation manikins and technology that will best serve our EMS training needs. We’re happy to do our due diligence to see this process through the right way.
The project’s goal is to provide highly realistic training scenarios for EMS providers in our region. Simulation education allows emergency personnel to learn and practice critical skills in a controlled environment without risking failures that could occur in real life. It also allows the opportunity to repeat these actions as many times as necessary for proficiency. We look forward to enhancing these educational opportunities for providers as they seek certification and credentials to do their lifesaving work in our counties.
Toolkit for Families with Special Health Needs
We have been working with several of our partners on a toolkit for families that have children with special health needs. I’m excited to say the support and collaboration on the project has been fantastic. I would like to thank the NYS PECC State Team Members, Mari Howard from Intandem and Dr. Ilustre from Olean Medical Group for reviewing the document for us. This toolkit will be available for all EMS agencies to provide to families within their communities who have a child that could benefit from such a planning tool.
