With Ruth Gonzalez

Make your own Holiday Swag using festive natural materials. In this hands-on workshop, Ruth Gonzalez will demonstrate, step-by-step, how to make your swag and help you create a beautiful holiday decoration that will add a warm welcome to your home throughout the holiday season. We will use a lovely mix of fresh-cut greenery & pinecones, and embellish the swag with a holiday bow. Workshop cost is $29.99 + tax and includes all the materials you need to make your Holiday Swag – a variety of greenery, pine cones and bow. Purchase your ticket on Eventbrite.

Please bring your own clippers and scissors if you have them. You are welcome to bring additional embellishments from home if you wish. We look forward to a fun-filled workshop!

Ruth Gonzalez learned to gather natural decorations from the wild as a child – watching her mother, grandmother, and aunts. Whether blackberry picking in the summertime, wildflower picking in the fall or gleaning from the woods for the holidays – nature provided much beauty and deliciousness. All forms of nature continue to inspire her – be it seashells, rocks, flowers, or holiday greenery.

 Plant Ahead for the Holidays
FROM WILMA: Anytime of the year when weather is halfway decent, most gardeners want to spend time in their gardens. Last weekend was pleasant and I planted bulbs, divided overgrown daylilies, and potted herbs to bring inside. My extremely tidy brother-in-law lives next door and sometimes cringes at my gardening style. He came over and offered to help me clean up some “messy weeds” - with his propane blow torch! They are the remains of goldenrod, coneflower, aster, and very tall tithonia (Mexican sunflower) that I left for the birds. I declined his offer.

Matt’s presentation of conifers last weekend inspired me to plant a winter container garden with miniature conifers. Susan and I have been scouting out places at the farm to plant evergreens and other plants to use for holiday greenery. We will also be cutting Holiday Greenery like holly, white pine, juniper, etc. from existing plants to have available at the Garden Center.

There is promise of mostly nice weather (with some rain) for next week. If you like to use natural materials in decorating, now is an ok time to plant evergreens and trees - not only for this purpose but to add beauty to your landscape.
