| A Little Christmas Tree History|
|FROM WILMA: With its fragrance, shape, strong branches, and ability to retain soft needles, Fraser Fir has been referred to as the “Cadillac” of Christmas trees. Native to higher elevations Fraser Fir is an important crop in several North Carolina counties. |
Fraser Fir as a Christmas tree was actually a spinoff of another use of the tree. Branches gathered from large trees growing on mountainsides were made into wreaths, garland, and swags. This was mostly a cottage industry and for convenience, folks began planting seedlings close to their homes. As they grew it became apparent they would make nice Christmas trees and around 1960, many Christmas tree farms were developed in these higher elevation areas.
When you purchase a fresh-cut Fraser Fir Christmas tree you are helping support local farmers. North Carolina is one of the top Christmas Tree producers in the nation.
