CEO Update
Leadership Cattaraugus

This past Tuesday, Southern Tier Health Care System had the pleasure of hosting Leadership Cattaraugus for their education program day. This allowed me to share with all of them the numerous community education programs STHCS offers. Also, each student was trained in Stop the Bleed by instructors Brian Wilcox and Tim Richardson.

Following their visit, I attended the Leadership Cattaraugus Graduation to honor the graduating class of 2019, which included our very own Director of Planning and Development, Alicia Broadbent. Leadership Cattaraugus is an experiential learning program designed to identify future leaders of the area and help them develop the skills to work more effectively for the betterment of all the people in Cattaraugus County. At the event, Mari Howard, CEO of Intandem, delivered an inspiring keynote that touched on what it is to be a leader in our community. I want to thank the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation for providing us a grant that covered 25% of the cost of the Leadership Cattaraugus program.
Litigation Issues Involving EMS

I want to thank attorney Jeffrey A. Black, Esq. of Black, Lyle & Habberfield, LLP for sharing his knowledge with a presentation on “Litigation Issues Involving EMS” Wednesday evening here at the STHCS Training Center. Many EMS personnel participated in the session live and via distance learning across our three-county catchment. Mr. Black discussed the importance of accurate documentation on Patient Care Reports, what to expect if an EMS provider is called for a deposition, and tips and tricks for if the case goes to trial. Educational opportunities such as this are invaluable to the EMS providers. If you have any ideas that you feel would be a good topic to present to local EMS providers, please feel free to let me know.
