WNCAP ReCAP:
2019 in Review

2019 has been another impactful year for WNCAP. To recap:

In February of 2019, WNCAP held a pancake breakfast with our friends at Kenilworth Presbyterian Church just for clients. The breakfast was an opportunity for everyone to get know each other while breaking bread together - or in this case, pouring syrup!

In April of last year, we partnered with 100+ restaurants in WNC for Dining Out For Life. Volunteer Ambassadors partied and the community raised nearly $150,000 in one day for HIV prevention & care. That’s pretty cool. Big thanks to Prestige Subaru for their annual presenting sponsorship!

Over the summer, WNCAP joined several other LGBTQ organizations in Asheville to help celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in 1969. We displayed portions of the amazing AIDS Memorial Quilt at the Asheville Masonic Temple to help remember all the LGBTQ activists who were affected by AIDS.

As part of the Blue Ridge Pride Festival in the fall, WNCAP screened the documentary 5B about nurses in the first-ever AIDS ward in San Francisco. Thanks to our amazing partners at The Grail Moviehouse for presenting this wonderful film, as well as WLOS anchor Frank Kracher for moderating a fascinating panel discussion afterward.

Finally, we celebrated the 31st annual World AIDS Day with a free community luncheon at the DoubleTree by Biltmore Hotel. Author, activist, and “the Lizzo of public health” Tori Cooper spoke eloquently about HIV & the trans experience.

As always, we ended this year with our Merry & Bright Holiday Gift Drive. Thank you to all the generous community members who have donated to support bringing holiday joy to the children and grandchildren of WNCAP clients. You can still support Merry & Bright here.

Every one of our donors, volunteers, sponsors, and even Facebook followers is helping to making an impact in our local community. Thank you for your kindness and your support.

If you are moved to give to WNCAP, please know that we appreciate your contribution. As a small, local non-profit, every donation makes a huge impact in our community.

WNCAP will be closed tomorrow for New Year's Day. After that, it's back to work! Happy Holidays to everyone in our WNC family and beyond.
