High Fidelity Manikins Received

 I am pleased to report that, earlier this week, two high-fidelity EMS training manikins were delivered to STHCS, as a result of funding through the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC). We have spent a tremendous amount of time ensuring the proper equipment was purchased to meet the needs of our region. After many meetings and demonstrations with various vendors, the equipment that was purchased are the Laerdal SimMan ALS and Laerdal SimJunior. We look forward to putting these manikins to use, and we will be holding an on-site training session with our EMS instructors and with a Laerdal rep to ensure that the equipment is used to its fullest potential. We look forward to enhancing current educational opportunities for providers as they do their lifesaving work in our counties.

Upcoming Caregiver Seminars

In the coming weeks, STHCS will partner with Ardent Solutions to bring two great training opportunities to the Olean area.
 Beginning on Jan. 15, A Matter of Balance will take place on Wednesday and Friday mornings at the STHCS Training Center. This seminar includes eight 2-hour sessions for adults ages 60 and older. It is designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults. Participants will learn to set realistic goals to increase activity, change their environment to reduce fall risk factors, and learn simple exercises to increase strength and balance.
 On Wednesday afternoons, starting January 22, Powerful Tools for Caregivers will begin. Powerful Tools for Caregivers is an educational program designed to provide those responsible for the care of family members or friends with the tools needed to take care of themselves. In the six weekly classes, caregivers develop a wealth of self-care tools.
