 We held a meeting of the Sexual Assault Forensic Examiners (SAFE) team members for the Olean General Hospital (OGH) program Tuesday. We reviewed sexual assault cases treated and investigated at OGH from the previous quarter. The review process allowed us to analyze our current practices to find areas in which we could perform better in the future. We also discussed the new NYSDOH Patient Bill of Rights, which establishes legal expectations for survivors of sexual assault who seek treatment. I’m happy to report that, in addition to OGH, representatives from St. Bonaventure University, Jamestown Community College and Cattaraugus Community Action also participated. It’s important to include all stakeholders involved in providing effective treatment and compassionate care for sexual assault cases. I’d like to thank Toni Cottone, one of our Program Assistants, for coordinating such a productive meeting.

Congratulations to the New Fire Chief
|
 I’d like to congratulate Tim Richardson, one of our longstanding STEMS educators, on being appointed as Chief of the Olean City Fire Department (OCFD). Having worked alongside Tim for years, I believe he is an excellent choice for the post. He will continue to serve the City well. Tim began with OCFD in 2002. He has mentored providers of all levels, from EMT-Basic to Paramedic, to learn new skills and achieve ongoing certifications.
Tim has always been a strong advocate for local EMS training needs. Frequently, he’s a trusted adviser and driving force behind training initiatives and new equipment that improve all aspects of prehospital care. I look forward to continuing to work with Tim in this new role. He's pictured here with his wife, Michelle, and his children, Leah and Justin.
