Seppi 'Whale Tail' Flail

Seppi are the original manufacturer of the 'Whale Tail' Flail which has now become the industry standard.
The Seppi flails are drop forged and hardened which give much better wear resistance and strength in comparison to the cast flails offered by most other manufacturers.
The Seppi Flail shape is designed to shelf sharpen and aid with the uplift of material from the ground.

Adjustable Rear Door and Roller Position

With the rear door closed the prunings are kept inside the casing for much longer so they mulch up finer and break down faster.
With the rear door open for grass mowing the grass can exit over the roller so the roller does not roll over the cut grass so eliminating clumping of cut material.
The roller position is important. For grass mowing the roller is positioned as close as possible to the rotor, so it follows the contours of the ground and reduces scalping. For mulching of prunings the roller can be moved back to allow more room for material in the casing and allow rakes to be fitted to pick up prunings if needed.
The bearings in the Seppi roller are double taper roller bearings. These have the abitily to handle radial & axial loads during turning, are very reliable and are very easy to service.

Low Profile and Mulch bars

The low profile of the casing aids the uplift of material from the ground and improves the mulched material result.
The material is lifted and cut at the base before being transported through the casing. The material is mulched through the mulch bars which act as counter cutters before being ejected out through the rear door.

Superior Seppi Rotor Design

The flails are positioned in a helical (spiral) formation, therefore only one flail cuts at any one time, this gives better load distribution and less noise and vibrations. This formation also saves power and fuel.
Flails are fixed in position with a high tensile bolt with a milled flat on the end. This accepts a nut with a soft skirt which is hammered onto the flat to give a very secure attachment, so they never come undone, improving safety. Other manufacturers use Ny-lock nuts, these get hot which in turn softens the nylon and then they come undone.
Seppi rotors have stub shafts which are welded on two flanges for extra strength.
Seppi use internal bearings for the rotor which gives more protection from dirt & wire. Being internal there is no overhang to catch or wear. The bearing housing is also fixed using 8 bolts - reducing vibrations and increasing stability.
