Matter of Balance Classes
|
We just finished a successful series of A Matter of Balance classes for individuals at risk of falls. Five participants completed the course, which was offered in partnership with Ardent Solutions over the last four weeks here in our Training Center. The classes teach some household safety precautions, simple exercises to strengthen muscles and maintain balance, and new mindsets to limit risks for dangerous falls. I’d like to thank Prevention Coordinator Jordan Taylor for coordinating these latest training sessions alongside Brent Tincher of Ardent Solutions. We’ve held several A Matter of Balance classes in recent years, and I’m proud to say Ardent Solutions has been a valued partner all along.
We’re now in the process of planning future sessions. We’ll soon be reaching out to area health providers to serve as a referral source for individuals who may need help or who wish to enjoy being more active later in life. If you know of anyone interested, please call us at (716) 372-0614, email Jordan at prevention@sthcs.org or call Ardent Solutions at (585) 593-5223, ext. 1015.

I recently attended the Naloxone meeting in Chautauqua County. There we discussed the current state of the opioid epidemic, as well as some ongoing efforts toward community interventions and outreach. I reported on our current initiative to place Narcan at each Public Access Defibrillator (PAD) site in Allegany, Cattaraugus and Chautauqua counties. I also gave updates on a new media campaign and a “Leave Behind” pilot program for police to leave Narcan and other resources at the scene of an overdose.
I'd like to thank Steven Kilburn, Grant Director for the Chautauqua County Rural Community Opioid Response Program (R-CORP) implementation grant, and the Chautauqua County Department of Mental Hygiene for coordinating this productive meeting.
