I would like to introduce all of you to our two new “staff members.” The only problem is they still don’t have names. We recently opened up a contest on Facebook to name them. We have gotten some great responses so far. They include names that honored regional EMS icons, like Walt and Todd Reisner. Others have been more humorous, like Manny and Ken or Dee and Fib. We’d love to hear your suggestions!
One of the goals in our strategic plan was to provide the benefits of simulation education, as we believe it is a valuable component of EMS training. The manikins were purchased with grant funds from the Appalachian Regional Commission for our EMS Simulation Lab. Feel free to contact me at dkahm@sthcs.org if you’d like to learn more about these amazing training tools.

We continue to expand our Distance Learning
|
We are continuing to work towards increasing the number of distance-learning (DL) sites within (and beyond) our counties. Thanks to grant funding from the USDA Rural Utilities Service, we will soon be installing end-user sites at the Canaseraga Volunteer Fire Dept. in Allegany County and Randolph Regional EMS Corp. in Cattaraugus County. For the first time, we will be expanding our DL network beyond our catchment with an end-user site in Franklin County in Upstate New York. Our current sites have already proven extremely valuable in promoting more accessible training and education for rural health providers. I’m pleased to report we’re now pursuing a fourth round of funding to expand this network into other New York State counties.
