Meet Walter and Terry! They’re our new state-of-the-art EMS simulation manikins here at STHCS. Thanks to a matching grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC), they’re now available to provide hundreds of regional EMS trainees with scenario-based learning opportunities in a repeatable, controlled environment.
In March we put out a call to all providers to help us name the manikins. The adult manikin was named after Walter L. Reisner, the late Trans Am Ambulance Service founder and long time STHCS Board Member. He was a man who was considered a pioneer in the local EMS system and continues to be a personal inspiration to me. It was shared by Walt’s wife, Ruth, that his nickname was Terry when he was a kid, so we thought that would be a perfect name for our pediatric model. Walt had so much insight into the development and advancement of emergency pre hospital care in our region. We hope that Walt's memory will live on even stronger.
We are excited to be able to provide this training tool to the providers in our region.

We have continued to host ConnectLife blood drives. This Wednesday we held our third blood drive over the last month. Through the three blood drives, we have had a total of 64 donors, which has resulted in 180 local patient's lives being saved.
I am happy to report that STHCS has agreed to be a permanent location for ConnectLife blood drives. We will be hosting two blood drives per month. The currently scheduled drives will take on May 6, May 21, June 11, June 23, July 7, and July 22. I feel this partnership will be a great asset to our community and our residents. To make an appointment to donate blood, please go to ConnectLifeGiveBlood.org.
