PEACE TALKS ~ May 2020

COVID-19
  COVID-19 affects us all:

May 2nd Sweat Lodge - This month we continued "Ceremony from a Distance". Rather than a Sweat Lodge, Sarah Franklin, the lodge leader, and Hannah Dunemann, the firekeeper held a Distance Drumming.

Individual drummers set aside the time, pulled out their drums and drummed together while apart.

Thursday, May 7th Fire Ceremony - Katy Koontz, the Fire Elder at the Center has determined that the Monthly Fire Ceremony will take place in the meadow as usual. You are welcome to join us.
Please rest assured that proper social distancing measures will be put into place. Chairs will be placed six feet apart, and those present will not be in physical contact with each other. Face masks are encouraged.
If you choose to stay at home but would like to be part of the ceremony, we invite you to light a candle at 7 pm with the intention of joining the energy of the ceremony. This is always appropriate at any time, pandemic or no pandemic.

Future events - Determination for future events will be made as we draw closer to the events.

The Vision Continues

Over 30 years ago Perry and Jeanne Robinson had a vision that has touched and changed many of us.

We are reaching out to you to assure you that their Vision is
continuing! Perry’s passing in February of this year has moved us from holding the Center for Peace in our hearts to moving it forward.

We have changed the leaders to bring us into this new time. We are happy to announce them here:

Dona Hodges-Walker, President
Steve Citty, Vice-President and
Sarah Franklin, Secretary

Council members: Jeanne Robinson, Heather Robinson, Nan Citty, Becky Walker, Paradise Kirkland, and Teresa McKee.
(We meet on a monthly basis and are in continuous contact.)

Steve and Dona were ordained last year by Perry. They are available for weddings, counseling, blessings, and whatever need arises.

**Our biggest project is adding lodging, showers, and bathrooms! Work has begun, although somewhat hampered by the virus.

**We are currently adding more events, including a Huna Workshop, Drum and Rattle Making, and Shawl Making, to name just a few. We are open to anyone who would like to offer any classes or workshops; call or email us.

**We are excited that the North Carolina Fire Dance will be joining us October 30 to Nov 1. The Chief is Brandy Winn. For more information and registration, go to: http://firedance.earth/project/sacred-grove-retreat-center-oct-25-28-2018-2-2-2/

**We have started land-clearing of the previous sweat lodge area to be used as a sweat lodge and drumming area.

We are looking forward to having our Center for Peace family come join us as we grow. More details will be coming soon, so please make sure you join our newsletter e-mail list and “like” us on Facebook.

We know these last few months have left many of us uncertain about what comes next for the Center. We are happy to say we are moving forward, and we invite you to be a part of our new journey.

Due to the current situation with social distancing, many of our ceremonies have been postponed or changed to Distance Ceremonies, but rest assured that we are still holding a space here at the Center for Peace for ALL of you.

With Love and blessings,

The Center for Peace Council

Saturday Sweat Lodge

From ya-native.comSaturday Distance Drumming

May 2nd

2020
Led by: Sarah Franklin
and Hannah Dunemann

"May's scheduled sweat lodge is changed to a drumming that you can participate in your own space in your own way. We feel called to be together even at a distance than to sweat alone.

Hannah and Sarah will come together and you are invited to join us from where you are. Though we cannot be physically together with you, we are connected with you in a way that the world is coming to understand more and more these days.

Set aside the time, pull-out that beautiful drum of yours, feed it, and prepare your space. We are all in this together and we'll see you in the drum beat on Saturday. "

Monthly Fire Ceremony ~ April 7th

Fire Ceremony

 Thursday, May 7th
 6:45 pm

~ led by Katy Koontz

The purpose of the FIRE CEREMONY is to heal and purify both the planet’s physical oceans and the oceans of cosmic thought.

At 7 pm local time, fire elders light ceremonial fires at each of the Peace Sound Chambers around the world. Those present watch the fire in silence until it burns out, giving to it what we want to transmute in our lives and staying open to the messages and teachings it brings.

Come to the fire ceremony if you enjoy focused meditation, if you are looking for new ideas and insights, if you seek to release and transmute something that does not serve you, if you want to join in the service of healing the oceans (both physical and cosmic) or if you’re simply called to participate in a ceremony that honors this powerful elemental force.

We suggest you arrive by 6:45 pm.
All are welcome.
Donations are appreciated.
Singing to the Trees - ongoing

This practice has been ongoing since April 12 and continues until May 13th. Follow this link to our earlier newsletter and/or to the House of Mica web page.

The House of Mica Peace Chamber, in concert with Birdsong Peace Chamber, Center for Peace, Oca De Paz Peace Chamber, Sweet Beautiful Waters Peace Chamber, and with the support of Geraldine Rael, eldest daughter of Beautiful Painted Arrow, is putting out this global call to SING TO THE TREES. As we honor the trees, we bring healing to the human lungs and our capacity to breathe. We recognize our interconnectedness with the natural world and all beings...

Friends of the Center

We are asking for sponsorship through monthly donations.

These donations do not need to be large but if those who love the Center for Peace could help by committing a few dollars on a monthly basis it could be the difference between always hoping that someday we will be able to build or provide those needed areas (i.e. showers, sleeping areas, restrooms) and actually making it happen.

If you have participated in any of the programs, offerings, and events that occur on an ongoing basis at the Center for Peace you have already felt the personal blessings from these activities. Our mission is to be a Spiritual Center for our community which extends to anyone open to this learning path.
