Tennessee Council on Developmental Disabilities Seeking Input on Five Year Plan
Have you ever faced a problem
with a disability service that was
so frustrating, any solution felt
impossible? Have you ever found a program that was so wonderful, you wished you could make it available everywhere?
Progress for people with disabilities depends on stories like those.  Finding and using supports to live a full life can be very hard  work. It also gives every member of the disability
community a powerful force
for change: personal experience.

The Tennessee Council on Developmental Disabilities is working on a new  five-year state plan to guide their work. The state plan is a key tool for the Council. It guides their strategy and planning. It is how they decide the ways they will  improve the disability services
system and grow leaders in the
disability community. The state
plan outlines the goals they will
meet and how they will meet them.
Before they can develop these

goals, they must get input from  the public. It should
take about 20 minutes and is
available in English and Spanish.

The survey will be open through the end of September.

FAMILY SUPPORT PROGRAM
In 1992, the Tennessee General Assembly passed legislation establishing a statewide Family Support Program. Statewide funding for this program is determined by our state legislators on a yearly basis. The program is administered by the State of Tennessee Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and managed in Williamson County by The Arc Williamson County. The program is designed to assist individuals with severe disabilities and their families to remain together in their homes and communities by providing financial assistance and community resource information.  Services provided include but are not limited to reimbursement for day care, respite care, specialized supplies, home and vehicle modifications, and equipment.
Applications are accepted any time throughout the year but if you are applying after March 31, and your are found eligible, you will most likely be placed on a waiting list as completed applications for the following fiscal year are due by March 31st every year.  Completed applications include a completed, signed Intake Form and the necessary proofs-disability, citizenship and residency. The Intake/Application Form and our handbook can be found on our website at www.thearcwc.org or by contacting Sharon at 615-790-5815, ext. 3.
If you live outside of Williamson County you can call 615-532-6552 to find out what agency administers the Family Support Program in your area.
