| Thinking About Pollinators|
|FROM WILMA: By this time in the season, many cool-season veggies/herbs are starting to bolt (bloom and go to seed). Instead of taking all of them out I like to leave a few in the garden to attract pollinators - arugula flowers are some of the best. I also plant pollinator-attracting flowers/herbs like zinnias, marigolds, scarlet sage, dill, borage, etc. among my vegetables.|
June is Pollination Celebration Month when the planting of pollinator gardens with native, non-invasive pollen and nectar plants is encouraged. When these plants bloom they attract birds, bees, and other natural pollinators that are important to fruit and vegetable production. Join Ruth as she presents a Pollinator Garden ZOOM Online Workshop on Saturday, June 13 from 10-11 AM.
June is also Perennial Plant Month. Tanya, Andrea, and Joel have created displays of pollinator-friendly perennials (including natives). Our Certified Pollinator Garden (Gerri Neville Cole’s memorial garden) is beginning to come alive with color and pollinators.
