 Home Sweet Garden
FROM WILMA:  This year more than ever there is an instinctive feeling just as it was with our ancestors to connect with our homes and gardens. These create a place of refuge, creativity, play, food security, and spirituality. As children we made hideouts in overgrown shrubs, climbed trees, and made playhouse “rooms” in the garden.  Some of us stood on tip-toe to help our grandmothers make cookies or other goodies.

A certain plant fragrance, an heirloom plant, a garden feature, or kitchen aromas can trigger memories. As a child, a friend played under a tree at her grandmothers. She has a branch from that tree and plans to have it made into objects for her sons.  Susan and Sarah planted annuals in a “wash pot” that was handed down from Bill’s grandmother.

Let children  be creative in the garden and kitchen - tell them of your memories as they make their own childhood memories. This year make your garden and home a place to honor the past, enjoy daily life, and create a legacy.
